Peter Shavney's presidents report 5/11/07

Several A.M.R.E. members, Pete and son John Stabe, Choo-choo, Pete Shavney, (all members of the Longhorn Chapter NRHS) went with TTM chairman Hugh Hemphill (also a member of the Chapter) to the Texas State Railway this past weekend.  On the way we stopped at the Temple RR museum which has an outstanding display of railroad items in their very large depot.

At Rusk/Palestine, we got to ride in the 1511 diner/lounge car which is on loan from TTM.  The future of TSR is uncertain at this time but may be decided in the next couple of weeks.  Our 8 car train was too long for the passing siding at the midpoint of the ride so we had to see-saw past the other train while staying on the main line. A turntable is also located near the midpoint to provide for turning engines on trains only going half way and returning.

We covered a total of nearly 700 miles over last Friday and Saturday, staying over night one night in Rusk.

End of report.

Pete Shavney
